If there is something which your dentist wants you to understand and care for deeply, then that would be keeping your teeth free from cavities. Cavities, even the tiniest ones, may seem harmless but they have the ability to make their way into the pulp region of your tooth and cause teeth sensitivity to an abscessed tooth. In essence, if you want to keep yourself from feeling all the pain and discomfort that comes with a decayed tooth, then you need to make sure that you don’t get cavities to begin with.

The scariest thing about losing teeth is that you cannot re-grow them. Fortunately, dental implants are now possible. Dental implants are titanium screws which are drilled into the space vacated by the lost tooth. The implants are anchored not deep within the bone tissues. Over a period of time, titanium fuses with the bone tissue which adds to the stability of the dental implant.

This first visit will set the tone of his or her receptiveness to dental care all the way into his or her adult life. You’ve heard of adults who avoid having to go to the dentist at all cost simply because they had a very traumatic experience at the dentist’s chair when they were young. While the field of dentistry and medicine have improved in leaps and bounds within the past few decades, people centuries ago viewed something as common as toothaches and other dental conditions as magical and evil to say the least. Finding an Alternative for Root Canal Procedures

March 18, 2013

Filed under: Blog — studiocitydental @ 7:14 pm

Almost the entire adult population has dealt with cavities, so it’s common for a person to have undergone a filling procedure at least once in his or her lifetime. But while drilling and filling procedures may seem effective in warding off further tooth damage, it’s actually still possible for bacteria to cause further damage even if an existing cavity has already been filled. This can lead to excruciating pain, especially when the pulp region is already affected.

But so what if the pulp region is affected? This would actually necessitate one of the most dreaded procedures in the entire world of dentistry – a root canal. Although the bulk of dental procedures have become relatively pain-free with the help of technology, the mere mention of a root canal procedure is enough to scare even the bravest of people. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, root canals are needed in situations where the pulp region becomes exposed either because of cavities or cracks. More than 14 million root canal procedures are done each year.

What makes root canals so terrifying? In the past, dentists would have to drill from the crown down into the pulp region in order to clean out all of the infected tissues. However, a new procedure has been developed which could replace root canals in general. The technique called direct pulp capping is faster than the standard root canal procedure, requires less use of the drill and can salvage more of the affected tooth.

The Truth About Your Wisdom Teeth

Filed under: Blog — studiocitydental @ 7:10 pm

Wisdom teeth hurt once they start erupting and, most of the time, they have to be removed either because they cause discomfort or they push against neighboring teeth. Other than signifying that we are mature, what are the functions of our wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth emerge between the ages of 17 to 25, a period which is known as the “age of wisdom.” While there are individuals whose wisdom teeth manage to come in without causing any problem, a majority of the population struggles with these molars. In fact, most of these people who have troubles with their wisdom teeth do not get them in at all. The molars stay impacted underneath the gums and must be extracted in order to keep one’s mouth healthy and ward off any pain that might result.

December 14, 2012

Filed under: Blog — studiocitydental @ 2:00 pm

Most kids are afraid of the dentist even if dental practices such as ours have caring dentistry for kids. Helping your child get over dental phobia is important, and you can reduce unfavorable visits to our dentist in Studio City by preventing the leading cause of tooth aches in children—tooth decay.

Tooth decay happens when bacteria from food particles left in the teeth begin eating away at a tooth’s enamel. Because children generally have a poor record when it comes to oral hygiene and are likely to enjoy sweets and foods rich in carbohydrates, they are at higher risk of tooth decay. Fortunately for children and parents alike, this is one dental problem that is treatable and preventable.
